Product Review: Soft Shoes from One Step Ahead

As I have written in the past, my son Mister has extremely sensitive skin due to being affected by Hay Wells Syndrome.  Because of the Hay Wells Syndrome, the skin on the tops of his feet and ankles breaks down very easily.  There have been many times when he was unable to wear shoes because of the pressure that shoes put on the tender areas.

Before he was able to walk, going shoeless was not a big deal.  But once he started toddling, he had to have something on his feet to protect them besides just socks.

That’s when we found Soft Shoes from One Step Ahead.

Soft Shoes

Soft Shoes are a One Step Ahead exclusive product.  They are made of nylon/spandex and are designed to soft and stretchy.  The material is breathable, so it doesn’t trap too much heat in.  They are easy to put on, and tough for the toddler to get off.  They have a soft lining and the soles have a non-skid surface.  They are heat/cold resistant.   They are also machine washable, which is a HUGE bonus in my book!

The Soft Shoes worked perfectly for us.  They protected Mister’s tender skin, and yet allowed him to explore and learn to walk without us having to worry.  We continue to use them anytime Mister’s skin is not healthy enough for “real” shoes.

Here is a picture of Mister sporting the Soft Shoes while playing outside.  The black ones have passed for dress shoes several times… LOL.

Available in sizes XS (3/4) to XL (11/12), we have gone through three sizes and have only to measure to be ready to order our next pair.

I highly recommend Soft Shoes to many mothers, and thought I would share them with you as well.

Random Recipe: Strawberry Avocado Turkey Treat

So, yesterday I was stumped as to what to make for dinner.  I had fresh strawberries, fresh avocado, and a few different types of lunchmeat.  I was in the mood for something different.  So, I created my own treat.

Strawberry Avocado Turkey Treat

10 fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped

1 avocado- pitted and chopped into small pieces

9 oz. package of deli thin sliced mesquite turkey breast

1/2 cup mayonnaise

Mix all ingredients in a bowl using a large spoon.  Use spoon to portion mixture onto hoagie rolls and enjoy.

We had ours with chips and cottage cheese.

My husband is generally not a fan of avocado, so when I asked him if he would eat what I was thinking about making, he said, “Are you going to go heavy on the avocado?”  After eating his Strawberry Avocado Turkey Treat, he asked, “Can we have this for dinner tomorrow?”  Woot!  I made a tasty meal AND got out of cooking for dinner tonight.

Be blessed,

Book Review: Wonders Never Cease by Tim Downs

Published in May 2010 by Thomas Nelson, Wonders Never Cease by Tim Downs, is an interesting novel about the ramifications of impersonating an angel.

Book Description

“It’s true what they say, you know: If you talk to God, you’re religious; but if you hear from God, you’re schizophrenic.”

When a car accident leaves a famous movie star in a coma, nurse Kemp McAvoy thinks he has found his ticket to the life he’s always wanted. As a med school dropout who was on his way to becoming an anesthesiologist, Kemp has the knowledge to carry off the crazy plan he concocts: adjust the star’s medication each night and pretend to be a heavenly visitor giving her messages. He recruits her agent and a down-and-out publisher to make sure the messages will become the next spiritual bestseller and make them all rich.

His live-in girlfriends daughter, Leah, reports that she is seeing angels, which prompts her mother and teachers to become concerned.

Before it’s all over, they’ll all learn a few things about angels, love, and hope.

What I thought…

Kemp McAvoy is always looking for a shortcut or the easy way out.  On the way to a promising career as an anesthesiologist, he is forced to drop out of med school because of his easy way out attitude.  With anesthesiology out of his reach, he becomes a nurse instead.  When an actress past her prime is assigned as his patient, he concocts a plan to impersonate an angel to give her a “special message” with instructions to tell the world.  He collaborates with her agent and a publisher in attempt to ensure a best-selling spiritual guide and line their pockets.  Wonders Never Cease by Tim Downs was a quick, easy, and heart warming read.  I literally read the entire 320 pages in less than 2 days.  While the book does lead the reader to consider his/her thoughts on God and things of a spiritual nature, this would not fall into an overt Christian Fiction category in my opinion.  It would be a great book to gift to someone who may not typically read a Christian fiction novel.

What I would change…

Nothing.  I look forward to reading more titles from this author.
