I have a terrible time buying gifts for my Mom.  She doesn’t NEED anything.  And whenever I ask her what she wants, I always get “your love is enough” or something similar.  Getting her something that is perfect is difficult indeed.  In the last couple of years, I have resorted to giving her gift cards to restaurants or stores that I know she goes to.  Somehow a gift card is more personal than cash.  It says, “I took the time…”

When researching Mother’s Day gifting trends, a recent Western Union consumer survey found daughters and sons of all ages have good intentions when it comes to finding the perfect gift, but 42% find it hard to shop for the perfect gift for mom.  Additionally,  42% of moms have pretended to like a Mother’s Day gift; and separately, 30% thought the gift was either “thoughtful” but not a gift they wanted, or they did not receive a gift at all (according to survey commissioned by Western Union and conducted by Wakefield Research, polled 1,000 people 18 years old and older between March 26 and March 28, 2010).

Western Union is celebrating Moms this Mother’s Day with their new “Return the Love” campaign. To celebrate Moms everywhere, they have set up a Flickr page where you can share a photo of your mom (or of yourself if you’re a mom)!

Each week, Western Union will select photos from this gallery to display on their site.
